Securus Issues Release Highlighting Competitors Wrongdoings

Securus Technologies is a Dallas, Texas based company that provides technology solutions for both the civil and criminal justice sectors. The company was founded in 1986 and has satellite offices in Carrollton, Texas, Allen, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia. More background information on Securus can be found here. Currently, the company is involved in the printing of a series of reports by The Louisiana Public Service Commission that highlight wrongdoings done by Global Tel Link (GTL).
Securus Technologies Chief Executive Officer Richard A. Smith made a statement that noted how offensive they found GTL’s lack of integrity and bad business practices. Securus loves their industry and care for their customers in the law enforcement industry and the correctional facilities along with their family and friends who are looking to stay in touch with loved ones, and the company is deeply saddened to find that GTL was finding ways to make profits by scamming those very people.
Securus has decided to review the many wrongdoings of GTL and highlight them in a series of press releases in order to better inform the public as well as shame GTL into changing their behavior and showing more integrity in their industry.
The first release involves a formal order issued by the Louisiana Public Service Commission highlights things done in the outbound telecom services GTL provides to thousands of inmates. The report highlights bad business practices preformed by GTL including adding 15-36 seconds to the duration of correctional institution calls, programming calls to be rated higher than what was allowed under the tariffs and rate caps, artificially inflating charges to customers, and double billing calls to customers. The formal order also goes on to state that GTL knowingly and deliberately committed these acts to scam customers. In total, it is believed the taxpayers of Louisiana overpaid GTL by roughly $1,243,000.00.
The time frames date back all the way to 1998, which may seem like a long time, but the bad business practices have continued throughout the years and according to Securus, this is not the only wrongdoing done by GTL. A full article outlining the report is available here.
