One of the most overlooked medical conditions currently afflicting the United States population is sleep apnea. This deadly scourge kills tens of thousands of people a year, and most of them don’t even know they have it. Although sleep apnea is capable of killing outright through things like asphyxiation and hypoxia, more often than not, it ultimately proves fatal due to secondary effects. Sleep apnea is strongly correlated with every major killer disease in the United States today. These include heart attack, stroke, diabetes and even workplace accidents.
Dr. Weisfogel’s crucial insight was that dentists are often the only medical professional that many patients will see over the course of years or even decades. While it is usually possible to put off appointments with physicians indefinitely, when dental ailments strike, it is virtually impossible to ignore them. Any patient attempting to prolong not seeing a dentist with a condition such as an abscessed tooth will quickly learn the limits of his own pain tolerance. For this reason, dentists are among the most commonly seen doctors in the United States today.
While looking for illnesses for which dentists could improve treatment, Dr. Weisfogel stumbled upon sleep apnea, a condition in which 95 percent of suffers oftentimes never even know they have the disease. It was his quest to help dentists learn how to fight sleep apnea. Dr. Weisfogel founded his seminar company, Dental Sleep Masters.
For the last five years, Dental Sleep Masters has been the leading institution in training dentists the art of sleep dentistry, a combination of traditional dental practice and sleep apnea treatment that has saved thousands of lives to date.
